How to Maximize Your $600 Amex Platinum Hotel Credit
The American Express Platinum Card includes up to $600 per year in hotel credits for bookings at Fine Hotels & Resorts (FHR) and The Hotel Collection (THC). Here is everything you need to know to get the most out of it.
How the $600 Hotel Credit Works
January – June
Up to $300 back as a statement credit on prepaid FHR or THC bookings made through Amex Travel.
July – December
Another $300 back on the same types of bookings. The credit resets on July 1.
Key Rules
- No enrollment needed. The credit is automatically applied as a statement credit when you book an eligible stay.
- Credits do not roll over. Each $300 period is use-it-or-lose-it. Unused credit from Jan–Jun does not carry into Jul–Dec, and vice versa.
- Must book through Amex Travel. Only prepaid bookings made on amextravel.com or the Amex app qualify.
- FHR has no minimum stay. Even a single-night FHR booking qualifies for the credit.
- THC requires 2 nights. The Hotel Collection bookings must be at least 2 consecutive nights.
Tips to Maximize Your Credit
Book hotels under $300/night
If you can find FHR or THC properties at or below $300 per night, the credit covers the entire room cost. You effectively stay for free (before taxes and fees).
Use both semiannual periods
Plan one booking in the first half of the year and one in the second half to capture the full $600.
Consider THC for budget-friendly stays
The Hotel Collection properties tend to be more affordable than FHR. While you need a 2-night minimum, the nightly rates are often well under $300.
Stack with experience credits
FHR bookings include a $100 on-property experience credit, and THC bookings include $50. These are on top of the $300 statement credit.
What Qualifies for the Credit
| Program | Minimum Stay | Experience Credit |
|---|---|---|
| Fine Hotels & Resorts (FHR) | None | $100 |
| The Hotel Collection (THC) | 2 nights | $50 |
